THE LOFT: HUNTLEYS & PALMERS: IVAN SMAGGHE + AUNTIE FLO + ANDREW
Lolita again lands on the Huntleys & Palmers collective, known for being specialists in mounting bugles. For their parties have passed Ivan Smagghe Jackmaster, James Holden or Four Tet (just to name a few because the list is really long). Fruit of their success they have become seal and they arrive at our hall to present to us its creamy signings. Together with the dj set of Auntie Flo and his capo Andrew, they repeat, tonight they have the French Ivan Smagghe, there is nothing. A night to be had in spite of the heat and the warm dances.
· Ivan Smagghe: Ivan Smagghe belongs to that kind of DJs that journalists have the pleasure to describe, lazily, as "The DJ of Djs". Along with Andrew Weatherall, an occasional companion in the booths, Ivan has the ability to punch music like a crude conduit between his famous dark discs and the dancing bodies of the dance floor, injecting some of himself into the mix along the way .
His production duties, originally on Black Strobe and now on It's A Fine Line, have connected him to clubbing and earned the praise of (among others) James Murphy, Trevor Jackson, Ata, Optimo and the aforementioned Weatherall. All of them, comrades in the crusade for demonstrating that electronic music can be much more than a soundtrack to the party of a hectic night.
His project with Tim Paris, It's A Fine Line, has already generated numerous remixes (from Superpitcher to The XX or Discodeine) and releases that go from electro rockabilly in Kompakt to italo rickety record in Marketing Music. Their awaited album is almost finished and should be ready by the end of this year.
Apart from his role as A & R for more than 10 years in Kill The DJ (where the first EP of RMVN, Ivan's project with Roman Flugel) has been launched, Ivan has also promoted the creation of the label Les Disques de la Mort (LDDLM), which shows Ivan's ample taste: new faces and old friends (Erol Alkan remixing Margot for 001, Zongamin remixing Manfredas for 002), seven inches and reissues. As for his solo work, the album of IAFL will open the door to new projects: remixes (his remix of VoX LoW was instantly collected by Rebolledo for his next CD, remixed Asphodells, Le carousel and others in progress for Colors or My Favorite Robot), new partnerships (ICAR with CAR, Chris and Cosey, a 12 "with Simian Mobile Disco, return to work with Ewan Pearson.) Ivan can be seen subverting the masses any weekend in places like Panorama Bar / Berlin, Robert Johnson / Frankfurt, Bugged Out & Fabric / London, Rex / Paris, Arma17 / Moscow, Trouw / Amsterdam, Lux / Lisbon and many other temples around the world.
RAZZCLUB: IAMDDB + DOWNITES + DJ2D2
Coming from Manchester and with a growing ascent, with releases such as Waeveybby, Volume 1 and Vibe, Volume 2, plus an infamous session at Colors of Berlin, the release of his new EP Hoodrich and the journey that I have taken to this moment, consolidates IAMDDB as one of the most projected artists of this generation. A work with seven tracks based on what IAMDDB describes as "a phase of life, of making everything possible out of nothing". It is an EP that deserves to be treated separately, deconstructed in each of the elements that make up the experience, all of which lead to a deeper, more reflective meaning. Initially with a sound that moves more towards the trap, the disc gives some an idea of the urban jazz sound that IAMDDB is modeling. She explains: "Sometimes you have to throw yourself deep into what is different, and then bring people back for what you want to do." It is a statement that gives a clear idea of IAMDDB's vision of her career, how she is always two steps ahead.
